1. What is animation?
This is the process of showing a number of pictures in sequence quickly to give the impression of movement. Cartoon characters are animated characters.
2. What is morphing?
Morphing is a graphical technique that involves changing the view of one object into another object.
3. What is the difference between a pixel based package and an object based package?
Pixel based packages make pictures by turning on and off dots on the screen. Dots are unrelated to each other. Object based packages deal with shapes. A shape is a set of related dots that can be treated as one unit. CAD programs are object based.
4. Why is a CAD program demanding for Input, output and storage?
CAD diagrams consist of many objects. To turn the objects into a 2D view we must perform many calculations to define what the object will look like given the users chosen perspective. The process of converting the object into a 2D representation is time consuming and requires both a powerful computer and a lot of RAM.
5. What are three advantages of CAD programs?
(i) diagrams can be quickly assembled from a predefined library of standard objects (ii) objects can be rotated, copied, saved and printed (iii) objects can be dimensioned automatically.
6. What are two disadvantages of CAD systems?
CAD packages are complex. They take a long time to learn to use.
7. What is CAM?
Computer aided manufacturing. This is software that is used to control a manufacturing package. It has absolutely nothing to do with CAD.
8. What are 2 examples of business graphics?
Charts that show trends such as (i) stock prices over time (ii) a chart to show profit earned over a number of years.
9. What are two types of chart?
